Pessaries

Speaker
Rochell Burton, APRN ANCP-BC

Description
A pessary can help manage the symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse and stress incontinence. With pelvic organ prolapse, there is a feeling of an unpleasant fullness in the vagina from the organ that’s slipped down into it. With severe prolapse, one may be able to feel the organ poking out of the vagina. With stress incontinence, women may experience dribbling or incontinence with laughing, coughing, sneezing or exercising. In most cases, people choose a pessary when they want symptom relief but want to avoid surgery to fix their pelvic floor muscles or they may choose a pessary if they have medical problems that make surgery too risky. Come and learn about the different types of pessaries and how they are fitted.

Learning Outcome
After completing this learning activity, the participant will have increased knowledge about pessaries and their indications for use.
